We tend to associate meditation with keeping the body still and the eyes closed. Dance, however, offers another doorway to states of heightened awareness and inner peace.
This course combines movement, reflection and improvisation against the backdrop of an experimental soundscape. You will be guided to express your creativity and challenge yourself in new ways. Expect to meet your limits, and flow beyond them!
If you’ve been struggling with sitting meditation, or would like to bring some novelty into your spiritual practice, this course is especially for you. It's also suitable for anyone looking to express themselves more freely and spontaneously through movement and dance.
Anyone who's familiar with ecstatic dance, five rhythms or contact improvisation will find new tools, approaches and perspectives to deepen your practice.
Course overview
This is a series of four 3-hour long sessions. Each session is divided into two parts, with workshop-style exercises, reflections and some theory in the first half, and an exploratory sound journey in the second half.
Each week will build on the last, helping build confidence, precision and emotional expression. You'll learn to move through strong emotions like anger, grief and euphoria, giving your inner world outward expression.
The course will culminate in an ecstatic dance party on the final night!
